The Gilliam Globe, Thursday, April 3, 1924
.....HARRISON LEVEL - Dr. J.H. Davidson received a telegram early Tuesday morning from the medical director of the National Sanitarium at Marion, Indiana, informing him of the death of Harrison Level, which occured there at 1:00 a.m., Tuesday April 1.
.....The deceased was a veteran of the World War, having served with the 89th division throughout its service in France and Germany. He became ill last summer and on December 17, was taken to the government hospital at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., from which he was transferred early in January to the government sanitarium at Marion.
.....Dr. Davidson immediately notified the family of the deceased, and wired the government officials to send the body to his mother at Gilliam, but at the hour of going to press the funeral arrangements, which will probably be under the auspices of the Modern Woodmen, have not been made.

The Gilliam Globe, Thursday, April 10, 1924
.....HARRISON LEVEL - The funeral of Harrison Level, who died at the National Military Home early Tuesday morning, was conducted here Thursday afternoon by the Charles E. Bollman Post of the American Legion of Slater. The body of Mr. Level arrived on the Plug Thursday morning, where it was met by Undertaker Salzer of Slater, who took it to the home of a sister, Mrs. Will Dille, near Cambridge, where his comrades in the World War assembled to bring it to the Gilliam Baptist church at 2:30 p.m., where a comforting funeral service was preached by Rev. R.W. Settle, pastor of the Slater First Baptist church, to a large congregation of relatives and friends who knew and respected the deceased, whose entire life he spent in this community, and whose unselfish service to his aged parents and his country during the World War won the admiration and gratitude of everybody who knew him.
.....After the services at the church, the remains were taken to the Gilliam cemetery, where at the sound of taps after a military salute of three rounds had been fired by his comrades in arms, the flag draped casket of a brave man was lowered to rest in Gilliam cemetery, where its occupant will await the call of the Great Commander of the Universe. The Legion men were under the command of Lieutenant Hurt. The pallbearers who were bound to the deceased by the two-fold tie of the American Legion and Modern Woodmen of America, were Clarence Cross, Preston Payne, Frank H. Genser, Hargrove Powell, Jesse F. Horner and Clarence Deis.

Written by June Level Robertson:
.....A covered wagon train slouched across the mesquite prairies of the northern part of the Republic of Texas. It had been along journey from Missouri, The roads had been rough and dust fogged into the weathered white arches of the canvas sheltering the wagon beds. Heat rays pierced the covers; winds from the interminable succession of small prairies burned and blistered; the suffering women and children longed to go somewhere and stop.
.....Tales of the atrocities of Indians in Texas made them see savages in each patch of tall grass, behind each bush near the road side.
.....The wagons inched on, and at last the shadows of the wagons and horses began to stretch out along the path behind them and the heat lessened, the wind cooled and a halt was made near a stream which supplied water for man and animal, and camp was made near Weatherford, in Parker County, Texas.
.....Young James Perry Levell, just recently bereft of his Father, lost of the great War between the States, felt a sense of responsibility for his Mother and younger children in the family. He was head of the Family now. Surely in this new land of opportunity they would find a home. This young man, pullulated so suddenly from adolescence into manhood with the .loss of his father and the responsibility of the family thrust upon him had had little time for schooling. His education was that chiefly of experiences in life. We said his name was James Perry Levell, and so it was, but the letter "P" was hard to form and so he did as some of his descendants have done in these years after him -- we have either changed our names to suit our liking or changed the spelling of them and that is our privilege and was his. Perhaps the letter "L" was easier to form, or perhaps he liked the sound for he became James L. Levell, or just plain Jim Level" as he was affectionately known among his friends.
.....Not many years passed,, and after being relieved of the heavy responsibilities of a large family, his mother having remarried a man by the name of Young and the younger children having grown up, young Jim Levell in his mid twenties met and fell in love and married a beautiful Texas flower, Frances Olive Young, daughter of one Wesley Young in Parker County, Texas. It is said that opposites attract each other, and such must have been this case, for whereas young Jim was fair haired and blue eyed, young Fannie, some nine years his junior , had black hair and beautiful brown eyes. Jim possessed a great sense of humor and loved nothing better than to enjoy a good practical joke upon friends and loved ones alike. It has even been noted that although better than three-quarters of a century has passed, this trait is still evident in some of his descendants. One of his achievements, we are told was his success as an amatuer ventriloquist.
.....Fannie was a devoted wife and loving Mother, and to this couple in Parker County, ~here were born seven children and later, three in Montague County, in old Spanish Fort.
