DESCENDANTS OF WILLIAM TAYLOR TINER

WILLIAM TAYLOR TINER was born Abt. 1820 in Tennessee, USA, and died Abt. 1855 in Colquitt County, Georgia, USA. DNA shows that he was NOT a son of John S. Tyner and Rachel Rider, although many family trees list him that way, nor a descendant of Dempsey Tyner. The problem is, he IS a descendant of the originator of their line, Nicholas Tyner, we just don't know how. He married (1) MARTHA R. NICHOLSON, daughter of EVAN NICHOLSON and SARAH VANN. He married (2) ARRISSA MILLER May 16, 1842 in Georgia, USA. She was born in Florida, USA, and died Aft. 1865. Again, many family trees list him as marrying an ANNA RENTZ and having a child by her, but apparently that’s another error. See below.

HI,
Been a long time since we all began the Tyner quest. Since then DNA has come along so I have some changes for you on the Tyner page.
#530 William Taylor Tiner.
He is definitely not the son of John Tiner, nor a descendant of Dempsey.
My Great Uncle Howard Tiner and his 4th cousin tested YDNA and they match Nicholas Tyner I. Dempsey does not, as he carries Harris YDNA due to Sarah Tyner (Nicholas I daughter) having children with John Harris.
I hope you can at least make a note to state this as many are putting my William as the son of John Tyner and Rachel Rider, and it's hard to get them to change this. They did have a William who was killed in the civil war.
In addition Tyner Rentz is not a Tyner, per YDNA as well. William T Tyner was not married to Anna Rentz.
Thanks

There is a document called a "Baker County School List" taken in 1859 which lists Arrissa Tiner as the guardian of 3 school age children (who are defined as between the ages of 5 & 16 which would be Ben, Ida and John); this is because William is dead. Louis Taylor Tiner, son of William T Tiner and Arrissa Miller, served in the Civil War from Baker co, GA. Louis lied about his age and joined the war because he couldn't get along with his step mother, Arrissa Miller Tiner. His father William was dead by this time.

Interview with Lewis Tiner, published in the Austin Daily Tribune, February 8, 1941
…..This Confederate Veteran was born in Newton, Baker Co, Georgia, September 11, 1843, and remained in that state until the outbreak of the Civil War. He volunteered and left his home with the Second Georgia Cavalry, and was in many of the great battles of the war including New Hope and others, and was with General Lee's Army when it surrendered at Appamatox.
…..Following the surrender, Mr. Tiner was mustered out at Greensboro, North Carolina, and returned to his home in Georgia. He married Miss Martha B. Kelly, February 6, 1866 and they remained in Georgia until 1872, when he and his wife and two children embarked in an ox wagon, traveling as far as Montgomery, Alabama, where they sold their oxen and wagon and boarded the train for Texas, landing in McDade, Bastrop County. Later they moved to Hill's Prairie, and from there they moved to the place he now calls his home, which is about fifteen miles west of Smithville.

1933 Smithville newspaper, Rosanky news items: Mr. W. R. Tiner of Shawnee, OK, once a citizen of this place is visiting his daughter, Mrs. Charlie Kelley, and other relatives and friends of this place. Mr. Tiner was one of the pioneer citizens of this community.

Story goes that Wright Tiner, Andrew Nathan Kelley, and Landy Schubert were running from the law for bootlegging and went to OK. Nathan and Landy came back to Upton but Wright stayed. Andrew spent time in the penitentiary. Landy stated that he would dress up like a woman, with fake hair, a hat and in a dress, and take the train back home to visit his mother. When the sheriff died (either Castleberry or Townsend) Landy came home for good. Landy went up to the jail and told the new sheriff to come outside and get him. The sheriff never came out so Lancy went home as was never messed with.
