According to daughter Eliza Jane's obituary, family came to Indiana when she was seven (which would make the move 1843), settling in Randolph Co. near Winchester. In 1850, they moved to Grant Co. Indiana, 8 miles south of Marion, where both parents died. This is backed up by records of Wyatt buying 80 acres in Section 9 of Liberty Twp., Grant County, on 8 January 1849.

They had moved to Taylor, ?Warren Co.,? MO by March 1831, possibly very recently because her mother asks for a quick reply to her letter and wants to know "whether you are pleased with the country." Three names are listed at the bottom of a letter written by Hery's mother in 1831. (The names are written in different ink and a different hand.) The names are: Elesethabeth (sic) Virginia Adkins, Herodias Adkins, and Henry Adkins. Since John W. Adkins is Hery's husband, my guess is that John was listing his wife and children's birthdates. Therefore, Henry Adkins was born the 13th of December (no year given).

In this same letter from Sarah Reynolds to John and Herodias, Sarah mentions that "Joseph Atkins his wife and the whole family have lately returned again to the neighborhood." I don't know if this Joseph is a brother, father, or other close relative to John, but he probably is related in some way or Sarah wouldn't have mentioned it. David served the Union in the Civil War as a private in Company G ofthe 7th West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry. The 7th West VirginiaCavalry began its organizational history in Charleston, Virgina in1861 as the 8th Virginia Volunteer Infantry, became part of the 60th Ohio Infantry, then was a part of the 4th Separate Brigade, then the 8th West Virginia Mounted Infantry, and in 1864, in Charleston, the regiment was reorganized into the 7th Regiment of the West Virginia Cavalry. From early in 1864 until being mustered out in August of1865, the 7th Cavalry served on patrol duty in West Virginia. David's pension record describes him as five feet, eleven inches tall with fair complexion and blue eyes. David had several children by two of his wives. .....Many lines of business are successfully carried on in the flourishing town of Henderson, Iowa, and our subject represents two, - dealing in live stock and engaging in auctioneering. Mr. Adkins was born in Monroe county, Indiana, October 7, 1854, a son of Wyatt Adkins, who was a native of Kentucky, born there September 21, 1807. The grandfather of our subject, Jesse Adkins, was a planter and slaveholder of Pulaski county, that state, where he died in 1856.
.....Wyatt Adkins removed to Clark county, Iowa, with his wife and nine children, all of them still living, with families, except one daughter, named Melita, who became the wife of Elijah Emory. Her death occurred in Clark county and one son was left motherless. Mr. Adkins was twice married and reared a large family. He was a farmer, owning two hundred acres, and at the time of his death, in 1884, was in easy circumstances. The second wife of Wyatt Adkins, our subject's mother, was named Mary Paekerof, and she was a native of Virginia; and our subject had one brother, David, now a resident of Creston, Iowa. Mrs. Adkins had been previously married to Reuben Wett and had two children both of whom are now deceased. Her son was a soldier in the Civil war, who died and was buried at Louisville, Kentucky. Mrs. Adkins lived until 1896, dying at the age of about eighty-six. She was a noble woman, kind to her neighbors, charitable and of a cheerful disposition.
.....Robert M. Adkins was reared on the farm and early learned its pleasures and dull duties, but had the advantages of a good common school education in Clark county. He remained at home until the age of twenty seven, when he was married to Mary Jane Kinzom, of Warren county, Iowa, a daughter of J. E. Kinzom, of Clay Center, Nebraska. She died in 1895, on January 31st, aged forty years, leaving five children: Mamie L., wife of Rev. E. F. Lake, a minister of the Christian church at Prescott, Iowa and she has two children; Hallie Dell, the wife of William Cain, a farmer of Montgomery county, and she has one child; Opal E., a graduate of Henderson high school; Stella M., a remarkably beautiful child of eleven years; and Glenn Guy, a fine lad of eight years. Mr. Adkins was married the second time, January 13, 1897, the lady being Miss Cora E. Maynes, of Henderson, Iowa, a daughter of William Maynes, a resident of this place.
.....In 1883 Mr. Adkins left the home farm and engaged in the hardware business at Hopeville, under the firm name of Adkins and Morton; but a year and a half later Mr. Morton retired and Mr. Adkins removed to Henderson, where he continued in trade for a period of four years, when he sold out and has since given his whole attention to live stock and to auctioneering. the latter business he began as early as his twenty-first year and has successfully pursued it at intervals ever since, until now his reputation in that line extends over a hundred miles, even into other states. He sells stock in Kansas City and Omaha, being the only man in the place engaged in that line, selling on commission and making a success of it.
.....In 1894 Mr. Adkins built his residence in Henderson and has lately purchased a farm of one hundred and sixty acres in Harrison township, upon which he will place a tenant. He is a very popular man in his home town, his genial manner and accomodating spirit making friend of all. He and his interesting family are welcome in all social circles and Mr. Adkins has acquired some celebrity as a fine checker-player.

.....Robert M Adkins and Mary Jane were my GGGrandparents. Their Daughter Hallie Dell was my mom's Grandmother. They have misspelled the last name of Mary Jane. Her name was "Kinyoun" ... not "Kinzom".
.....Their daughter Hallie Dell Adkins married William Jamison Cain. William moved to Pasadena, Los Angeles Co. California toward the end of his life where he died. His Birth 23 Aug 1870 Illinouis and Death 21 April 1945 .
.....Mary Jane's father also died in Pasadena. His name was James E. Kinyoun. His Birth 11 May 1835 … Death 12 March 1931 Pasadena, Los Angeles Co., CA I have his death certificate.
